EarthCam Provides Live View from the Top of the Washington Monument

Partnership with National Park Service Delivers Innovative Experience of the National Mall

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

New York, July 8, 2013 -- The Washington Monument has reopened – well at least virtually – thanks to views from a new webcam donated by EarthCam. Mounted to the scaffolding on the pyramidion of the treasured landmark, the HD megapixel camera system   delivers views from the highest vantage point in Washington, DC. The webcam is being launched by the partnership of EarthCam and the National Park Service in conjunction with tonight's lighting ceremony and can be viewed on: www.earthcam.com/washingtonmonument.

A creative vision from EarthCam CEO and Founder, Brian Cury, and Bob Vogel, Superintendent of National Mall and Memorial Parks at the National Park Service, the new high-definition camera takes visitors to the top of this 555-foot tall marble structure and delivers sweeping 12 megapixel images of Washington, DC with a special wide angle lens. This unmatched aerial perspective delivers uninterrupted views of the United States Capitol, one of the most symbolically important and architecturally impressive buildings in the nation, as well as the beautiful landscape of The National Mall.

“Through our collaboration with the National Park Service, the public can still enjoy views from the Washington Monument's observation deck even while the monument remains closed for repairs”, said Brian Cury, CEO and Founder of EarthCam. “We hope our time-lapse documentation is entertaining and educational, and also provides support to the important work of restoring and improving the National Mall.”

In addition to the new images captured from the top of the Washington Monument, two other EarthCam cameras offer the public views of the lights each night, including a live streaming webcam located near the Jefferson Memorial: www.earthcam.com/washingtonmonument. Viewers can also watch progress of the National Museum of African American History and Culture via a construction camera focused on the jobsite. This important museum is being documented by EarthCam's patent-pending GigapixelCam, which produces over 1000 megapixel panoramic images.
